Gary Walraven

Gary Walraven was born 2/5/1941 to Gerrit and Evelyn Walraven in Sioux City, Iowa. He passed away on 9/30/ 2017 from a long illness. Gary was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a friend to many. He was a devote Catholic serving as a volunteer at Penrose St. Francis Hospitals with Spiritual Care and as a hospice volunteer for 18 years with Pike Peak Hospice. He was also an avid reader and a prolific writer. Gary is survived by his wife of 50 years Molly (Torres) whom he met in 1964. They married three years later. He also leaves three children Lisa Iberg (Jeff Iberg), John Walraven (Kim Walraven) and Eric Walraven along with 6 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and a sister Janice Whelton. He graduated from San Jose State University with a double major in Production Management and Business Administration and a minor in Engineering followed by an MBA from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. Gary served in the US Navy Reserves for six years as an Aviation Electronic Technician and 19 years as a Naval Intelligence Officer retiring as a Commander. He worked 35 years at AMPEX Corp holding numerous management positions. After retiring from AMPEX he worked at Mikron Mfg. for three years. Gary will most be remembered for his love of his family, his deep faith, his great sense of humor, and his service to others. Viewing and Rosary to be held at Evergreen Funeral Home (1830 E Fountain Blvd) on 10/05, 6 – 8 PM. Funeral Mass to be held at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church (926 Farragut Ave) on 10/06, 9 AM. Reception to follow.
