Gisela Edeltraudt Lemke Fitzsimmons
4/20/1926 -6/23/2013
Gisi died peacefully at home last Sunday. Gisela enjoyed a long, meaningful life being a loving daughter, devoted mother to three boys and wife to James “Fitz” Fitzsimmons. She taught her family resilience, persistence, and how to turn challenges into adventures. She enjoyed nature, camping, flower gardening, and the exploits of her children and grandchildren.
Gisela was born in East Prussia to Artur and Edith Lemke. She worked as a translator in Germany following WWII before she met and married Fitz in 1948.
They moved to the States and Gisela’s focus was her family. She supported her husband’s military career by moving frequently, caring for the boys and managing a busy household.
Gisela resided in Colorado Springs since 1967. She enjoyed her friendships, her family, a cabin in the mountains and traveling to Tucson.
Gisela is preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her children, James Jr. (Lorie) of Arlington VA., Erhard (Cheri) of Colorado Springs and John of Tucson, AZ. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Katie Fitzsimmons and Kelsey Fitzsimmons of Denver.
A celebration of life will be held at Evergreen Mortuary 6-29-2013 at 10:00 a.m.
