James Grover Benskin, “Jim” 1943 ~ 2012 Jim was born May 13, 1943 and died peacefully at home, May 12th, surrounded by his family.  He is survived by his wife Patty Benskin; one son, Phillip Benskin and wife Betty of Baytown, TX; two daughters, Larissa McLean and husband Blake of Houston, TX and Bonnie Benskin of Denver, CO; four grandchildren; Bryce and Casey Benskin and Grace and Ginny McLean. Jim is also survived by his mother, Venita Benskin and brother and sister-in-law, Don and Jerry Benskin all of Houston, TX. Jim was a Texas native, graduating from Texas City High School in 1961 and earning a bachelor’s degree at Sam Houston State University, a master’s degree at Southwest Texas State and a doctorate at Texas A&M University. He worked as a teacher and an entrepreneur owning several software companies. Jim loved to travel and had a passion for orchids and butterflies, but most of all, Jim had a love of life, friends and family.  An open house will be held at his residence in Colorado Springs on Thursday, May 17th from 2 to 5 pm.  A small service and gathering will be held in Galveston, TX on Saturday, June 16 to remember Jim.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.  For more details please see www.memorialwebsites.legacy.com/jimbenskin
