Jessie Newhart Obituary

Jessie Mae Jones Newhart October 3, 1919 – June 30, 2012 Jessie Mae Jones Newhart, age 92, died on Saturday, June 30th, at the Medalion Retirement Community in Colorado Springs. Prior to that, she had lived at The Myron Stratton Home for more than 20 years, where she was an active and much-loved resident. Jessie was born October 3, 1919 near Elmore City, OK to Nettie Ophelia McClard and John A. Jones, the first born of this union. She is survived by brother Paul Jones of Kendall, KS; sister Marjena Widner of Girard, KS; and multiple nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Levi "Smokey" Newhart, sister Francis Watson, and brother Thomas Jones. At age 16, Jessie moved from Syracuse, KS to attend Colorado Springs Bible School. She lived a few years in Illinois where she met and married Levi, a mechanic and long-distance truck driver, in 1944. Jessie and Levi had no children of their own, but Jessie loved children and spent a considerable part of her life providing child care for many families. She was an adored and loved "grandmother" to many. She also worked as a Nurse Aid at Penrose Hospital for nearly 30 years. Her loves included her personal relationship with Jesus, her church (where she held various leadership positions), extended family, crossword puzzles, crocheting and embroidery, a doll collection, and travel (including celebrating her 90th birthday with family in Florida and her 92nd birthday with family in Tennessee). She often said: "You're just as old as you think you are." And she lived it - active both physically and mentally (including driving and being social) until the last six months of her life, prior to a stroke. She was a woman of few words, but she lived a life of faithfulness, integrity, and honor - blessed with many loyal, caring friendships. Followed by pre-visitation from 11:00-1:00, a celebration of her life will be 1:00 pm, Friday, July 6, at Vista Grande Church of God, 4870 Flintridge Drive, COS  80918. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Memorial funds may be given to Vista Grande Church of God or Myron Stratton Home (555 Gold Pass Heights, COS  80906). Funeral Home arrangements provided by Blunt Mortuary.
