Joan Strating

Joan Mae Strating ("Dooli") May 15 1923 - Jan 7 2013 Beloved mother of Bobby, Linda and Susan. Born and raised in Chicago, Joan attended Calumet High and graduated from E.D. Eggert Piano Academy. After moving to Colorado she completed Colorado College's Bach Seminar Workshop. Her husband's Air Force career took her musical and homemaking skills to many parts of the US and Europe when her children were young. She and her husband retired to Colorado Springs in 1974. Joan is survived by daughters Linda and Susan, granddaughter Jennifer, brother Dale, and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by husband Robert and son Bobby. Joan was a talented pianist and organist who served and performed with the American Music Society and also served as its president. She is remembered by family and friends as an independent spirit who enjoyed gardening, traveling, walking, and attending the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. In addition to her musical talents she was accomplished in art, cooking and tailoring. Her greatest joy was eating! Joan loved her family and was devoted to her faith and church and was a long time member of First Christian Church. She will be missed by many close friends and wonderful neighbors who admired her independent spirit and who provided tremendous support to her as her health declined. Her family is grateful to all of them. Words she lived by: be yourself; and when in doubt, add more wine
