John Jones

John Chapman Jones July 30, 1962 – May 30, 2012   John Chapman Jones, born July 30, 1962 in Austin, Texas, died suddenly of natural causes at his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado on Wednesday, May 30, 2012.  John’s parents were Stephen and Virginia (Hadden) Jones.  He grew up in Norman, Oklahoma, Washington, D.C., and Port Arthur and Orange, Texas.    He is survived by his daughter Hannah Katlin Jones, and father and step-mother Stephen and Sherrel Jones of Enid, Oklahoma.  John’s survivors also include his half-brothers Stephen Mark Jones of San Francisco, California, and Edward Jones of New York City; half-sisters Rachael Jones of Dallas, Cathy Borel and Christy Beck, and his step-father Kenneth Pigg, his aunt Marilyn Hardy and her husband David Hardy (Ret. Rear Admiral, USN) of Arlington, Virginia.  John was predeceased by his mother, maternal grandparents Stuart and Betty Hadden of Port Arthur, an uncle George Hadden of Port Arthur, and his paternal grandparents L. W. and Gladys Jones of Houston, Texas.   John was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma (Norman) in 1988 with a B.S. in Environmental Science.  He was active in the Naval ROTC Unit while at the University.  He worked primarily in construction and environmental services, as well as a staff member of the McVeigh defense when his father was appointed by the United States District Court as principal defense counsel.  The bombing trial was held in Denver, Colorado and John fell in love with Colorado and remained there for the rest of his life.  He was a member of the National Audubon Club, an amateur ornithologist with a strong interest in American Eagles and astronomy.    Consistent with his wishes, his remains will be cremated and later scattered in the Rocky Mountains which he so loved and from which he drew his strength.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.   Funeral arrangements by Evergreen Funeral Home, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
