John E. Walker, age 75, a long-time resident of Woodland Park passed away on October 31, 2010. He was born in Durango, Colorado, in 1935, a son of the late, James Edward and Rachel Marie Lattin Walker. John was raised on a ranch near Arboles, Colorado, he graduated from Ignacio High School and then attended the University of Colorado in Boulder for four years, where he met Delores, his wife of 53 years. He spent 35 years in the land surveying profession in the Pikes Peak region, served six years as Teller County Surveyor and was Woodland Park’s first City Engineer. John was active with the Professional Land Surveyors of Colorado, including serving one term as President. He valued his family and his community. He was a loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 25 in the early ‘70s. Community and local politics were always interesting to him. He was able to vote by absentee ballot in the most recent election. He was a football and car racing fan. John is survived by a sister, Alice Brown of Durango and a brother, James E. Walker of Englewood. He will also be greatly missed by his wife, Delores, his son, Jim, two daughters, Susan McDowell (and husband George of Barre, Vermont) and Laura McMahill (and husband Chris), three grandchildren, Bryan, Donovan and Shawn McMahill, and one great grand-daughter, Cassidy McMahill.
