John was born March 31, 1937 to Roy Leon and Emma Hazel Wood in Winfield, Kansas. He attended school in Kansas until joining the military in 1954. Soon after he met Henrietta Martinez, they were married November 13, 1954 and had five children, one of whom passed away at birth. In his later years, after retirement from the military, John worked as a cook at both Peterson Air Force Base and the Air Force Academy, he even opened a couple of restaurants while living in Oklahoma from 1990 to 1995. In his spare time he would fix up furniture and sell it at the flea market in Colorado Springs, where the family settled after John’s discharge from the military. John also had a hobby of fixing up and selling old Volkswagen’s. John is preceded in death by his infant son, Emery Wayne, as well as his parents Roy Leon and Emma Hazel as well as a brother, Robert E. Wood. He is survived by his wife Henrietta Wood, son Leon Wood, son Daniel Wood, daughter Frances Wood all of Colorado Springs Colorado, and daughter Angela Terrebrood of Missouri.
