Leo Steinmetz, age 82, a resident of Widefield, Colorado for the past four years and formerly of Lakin, Kansas, passed away on April 13, 2011 in Colorado Springs. Leo was born on January 13, 1929 in Sugar City, Colorado, the son of the late John and Katharine Karle Steinmetz, Sr. Leo was a farmer/rancher. He loved the Lord and had a zest for life. He married Bernice Grasmick December 17th, 1949 in Ordway Coloado. He was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Leo attended the Widefield Community Bible Church. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, storytelling and was a fixer upper repairman. Leo had served on various church and school boards and numerous farm related organizations. His favorite activity was being with family and friends. Leo will be missed by all who knew him. Leo is survived by his wife, Bernice Grasmick Steinmetz, his 3 children, Lenice (Jeff) Frey of Riley, Kansas, Randy (Sara) Steinmetz of Harrisonville, Missouri and Genie Black of Colorado Springs, 9 grandchildren, Keegan, Stephon, Katharine, Dylan, Mia, Olivia, Rider, Elice, Eugenia, 3 great grandchildren, Isaac, Max and Ivan, 4 brothers, Al Steinmetz of West Chester, Pennsylvania, Robert Steinmetz of Pueblo, Colorado, Harry Steinmetz of Eugene, Oregon, John Steinmetz, Jr. of Venita, Oregon, 2 sisters, Evelyn Wishert of Sugar City, Colorado and Johanna Eddy of Coulter, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Rachel Nelson. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, April 18, 2011 at Blunt Mortuary 2229 W. Colorado Ave. Colorado Springs, Colorado 80904. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the Widefield Community Bible Church 702 Quebec St. Widefield, Colorado 80911. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Fountain, Colorado. The family requests that memorial donations be made to Widefield Community Bible Church or to Gideon’s International.
