Mary Hawthorne Obituary

First generation born in America to parents Fred and Agnes Pisa, who immigrated from Bohemia in 1909. Sponsored by the church, they settled in Cleburne, Kansas not too far from Hanover where Mary was born. During the Depression, she helped her mother and family clean houses and worked on the farm. However, her goals were to finish school first and foremost. During these hard times it was rare to keep children in school. Mary did graduate from Hanover High School in 1938. After graduation, she relocated to Salida, Colorado where she worked in a restaurant. It was there that she met the love of her life. Mary was united in marriage to Earl W. Fimple in Santa Fe, New Mexico in October of 1941, to this union were born two children. Mary and Earl relocated to Colorado Springs, Colorado due to a railroad transfer in 1943. She was a wonderful homemaker, a loving wife and mother. After her first husband retired from the railroad, she went to work at the Colorado Spring City Utilities where she worked until retirement. Mary is preceded in death by her first husband Earl W. Fimple, second husband Ted Hawthorne and son Darold W. Fimple. She is survived by daughter Mardene K. Rivera of Universal City, Texas and son-in-law Lee R. Rivera, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mary Hawthorne was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Purple Heart, chapter 423 and the VFW post 4051. She was a resident of Colorado Springs from 1943 until being called home by the Lord. As a member of the Central United Methodist Church for over fifty years, she enjoyed teaching Sunday school in the early years. As a homemaker, she enjoyed her home, plants, maintaining her yard and loving her family. Mary truly loved to listen and dance to good down home country western music. Among her other hobbies, was volunteering, being a member of the handy Home Makers Club and making lasting friendships. Left to cherish her memories are her co-workers from Colorado Springs City Utilities, and the Colorado Springs Senior Assisted Living Caretakers and personnel who made her comfortable during her occupancy. A special thanks to Debbie Yarra for being such a great friend. At the request of Mary Hawthorne's family, in lieu of flowers, a Memorial Contribution can please be made to Silver Key Senior Services, 2250 Bott Ave, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80904.
