Basilio Romero

Basilio Romero died Friday, February 1, 2013, in Durango. He was 80. Mr. Romero was born to Faustine and Mary Romero on April 6, 1932, in Ignacio, Colo. A member of a family of four children, Basilio was a hard worker and enjoyed working with his hands. He married Louise Lujan December 27, 1950, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was an avid Broncos fan and really loved all sports, according to his family. He retired from School District 9-R after 27 years as a carpenter. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He and Mrs. Romero loved to travel and went on many family road trips together. His family remembers, "He was loved by all and was great man who would help anyone at a moment's notice." He is preceded in death by his sisters Veronica Cordova and Mary Archuleta. He is survived by his wife, Louise Romero, and sons James, Ted and Mark Romero, all of Durango; daughter Anna Marie Monaghan of Norristown, Pa., and brother Walter Romero of Ignacio. He was preceded in death by his sister Veronica Cordova, and his sister Mary Archuleta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father Joseph Gallegos C.R. of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will be officiating. Burial will occur at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango. A rosary will be recited at Hood Mortuary Chapel at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2013.
