Charles Schumacher passed away at his home in Durango on May 31, 2015. He was 87 years old. Mr. Schumacher was born in Durango on November 18, 1927. He graduated from Durango High School and served in the Navy. Upon his return to Durango, he married Dorothy Moore. Charlie and his brother, Leroy owned and operated Schumacher Painting and Paperhanging for many years. He also worked for Guy Loether Construction and for the past 30 years, worked in maintenance and restoration of the Strater Hotel. Charlie was a master woodworker and his handicraft can be seen in the lobby of the Strater as well as the Office Spiritorium. Mr. Schumacher was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy and a daughter, Jackie. Mr. Schumacher is survived by his daughter, Gerrie Chamberlain of Durango, a brother, Leroy of Bayfield, a brother, Jack of Fruita, CO and several nieces and nephews. No services are planned.
