Elizabeth Mantey Obituary

Elizabeth Jane Mantey, 74, died Friday, March 30, 2012 at her home in Oxford, Colo., due to cancer. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2012, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2012, also at St. Ignatius Catholic Church. Father Douglas Hunt will be officiating. Burial will occur at Oxford Cemetery in Oxford. Mrs. Mantey was born January 10, 1938, in Newark, N.J., the daughter of Joseph and Jane (McGuigan) Pinaud. She became a registered nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson, N.J. She also studied at the Catholic Maternity Institute in Santa Fe where she became a certified Nurse Midwife in 1971. Elizabeth was part of the medical Mission Sisters Team that started Holy Family Hospital, the first integrated hospital in Atlanta, Ga. Later she worked at Tri-County Health, CU and Mercy Hospitals in Denver. On December 28, 1969, she married Bernard Mantey at their home in Denver. Elizabeth was preceded in death by children Monica Marie, Damien, Xuan, her parents and brother, Joseph Pinaud. She is survived by her beloved sons Kris Mantey and his wife Katie of Surprise, Ariz., Tim and Todd of Aurora, Colo., sister Marilyn Pinaud and her husband Edward “Mick” Michalowski of Nederland, Colo., and sister in law Nancy Pinaud of Centerville, Ga. Also adopted daughter Kate Casey of Puerto Mount, Chile, and each of you, her extended family.
