Gary Michael Gibbons, 56, died Friday, May 23, 2014 at home in Hesperus, Colorado. A memorial service will be Sunday, June 1, 2014 at 2 pm at the family cabin, in Hesperus, Colorado. Gary was born February 16, 1958, in Denver, Colorado the son of Francis “Frank” Gibbons and Teresa Johnson. He grew up in Aurora, Colorado, and graduated from Gateway High School in Aurora. Gary moved to Glenwood Springs in 1986. He married Geri Elio on May 20, 1989 in Denver. They lived in Glenwood Springs until 1997 when they moved to Hesperus, Colorado. Gary was a gifted heavy equipment operator for the Twin Buttes project in Durango. He loved mining, constructing projects and building, helping others, backcountry skiing, and sports – especially the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies. He is survived by his wife: Geri Elio, of Hesperus; a son: Jacob C. Gibbons, of Denver, Colo.; his mother and step-father: Teresa and Craig Johnson of Canyon City, Colo.; Siblings: Peter J. Gibbons of Sun Valley, Idaho, Thomas Patrick Gibbons of Crested Butte, Colo., Sue Ratcliff of Pagosa Springs, Colo., Diane Vertovec of Denver, Colo., and Jean Sinkey of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; and one grandchild on the way. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Frank Gibbons.
