Ignacio resident Gladys M. Barnes died Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at home surrounded by her family. She was 84 years old. Gladys was born to Willis and Eva Boyd on March 31, 1928, in Durango, Colorado. She grew up in the Bondad area and graduated from Durango High School in 1946. On July 3, 1946, she married Holly "Shooter" Barnes in Tierra Amarilla, N.M. They moved to the ranch in Ignacio, Colo., where she worked and raised two children, Darlene and Perry. After the kids started school, she worked at Ignacio Shur Value for 35 years. After retiring from Ignacio Shur Value, she enjoyed painting, reading, knitting, yard work, and taking care of her cats. Her greatest loves were her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Holly "Shooter" Barnes; brother Robert Boyd; and sister Barbara Haptenshall. She is survived by son Perry Barnes of Ignacio; daughter Darlene Chandler of Ignacio; two brothers, Gilbert and Willis Boyd, of Arizona; sister Joyce Hogue of Iowa; four grandkids; eleven great-grandkids; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Monday, August 20, 2012, at Hood Mortuary. Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at Florida Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to Florida Cemetery to the attention of Carol Robyns, 2481 County Road 225, Durango, Colorado 81301.
