Longtime Durango resident Jerry Schuyler, 66, died peacefully on July 4, 2016, at Mercy Regional Medical Center, after a courageous “strong yet soft” fight against his cancer. Born August 8, 1949, in Grand Island, Nebraska, to Aden Schuyler and Letitia Dolan, Jerry loved the outdoors. He spent 35 years building custom homes in the Animas valley and then was recruited to work for the La Plata County Building Dept. as a Building Inspector. Jerry loved to spend time with his family and friends, fishing at Vallecito Lake, hiking, taking vacations to Hawaii, Thailand and Mexico, picking local wild asparagus, growing flowers and maintaining the best lawn in Durango. Jerry is survived by his wife Amphon Schuyler, daughter Kinkaeo (Oh) Schuyler, brother Dennis Schuyler and his wife Kaye residing in Grand Island, NE, and brother Gene Schuyler. A service will be held, Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Hood Mortuary Chapel, 1261 E. 3rd Ave., Durango, CO.
