June Lorraine Monell, died of natural causes, October 11, 2013 in Durango, Colorado where she lived the last eight years of her life. June was born to Art and Jessie Walker, June 17, 1922 in Merced, Calif. June graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, Calif. She married Lester G. Monell in Las Vegas, NV on October 20, 1941. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on October 20, 2011. She worked in Southern California as a receptionist for several small businesses and became a home health care worker in her later years. June loved caring for others and sending greeting cards to her friends and family members on their birthdays. She preferred to be outdoors and cherished picnics by her beloved Pacific Ocean and the Animas River. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Lester Monell, May 25, 2012. She is survived by her children, Linda Suzanne Heaney, Washington DC, Russell Paul Monell, Durango, Colo., Leslie Ann Garbe, Reno, Neveda. Grandchildren, Brian Sean Heaney, Durham, North Carolina, Kevin Heaney, Fairfax, Virginia, and Mark Heaney, Wheaton, Maryland. Great-children, Katherine Heaney, San Jose, Calif., Erik Heaney, Durham, North Carolina, Samuel Heaney, Fairfax, Virginia, Andrew Heaney, Fairfax, Virginia, John Heaney, Durham, North Carolina. Family memorial services are planned for a later date.
