Kenneth George Obituary

Kenneth K. George, our beloved son and brother passed peacefully in the early morning at Mercy Regional Medical Center on August 25, 2017. He was born on May 29, 1945 in Durango, Colorado. He was a member of the Navajo Nation, Blood Clan on Mother’s side “Salt”; Blood Clan on Father’s side “Red Running water into water.” He graduated from Ignacio High School in 1964 then shortly went on to further his education at Fort Lewis College while working as a desk clerk at the Holiday Inn of Durango. Ken enlisted in the Air Force during the Vietnam Era, while eventually becoming a transporter. After serving his country, he returned home to spend time with family and friends before making the move to Philadelphia, PA, which became his home away from home. There he began his new journey working as an entrepreneur (flipping homes) later as a computer tech in the newspaper industry, for several years when he decided that it was time to return home to care for his mother. He retired in 2012 leaving many friends and lot of memories behind, that will truly miss his smile, laughter. He devoted much of his time to family and friends spreading laughter and joy with that smile of his. Ken was well-known for the “black cowboy hat” he would wear at the Sky Ute Casino, where he met many friends and will miss seeing him and his mother there. He was working on his “family tree,” meeting with relatives that he didn’t know he had. He loved going to the local flea markets, yard sales, strangers would eventual turn into friends wherever he went. Mr. David Martinez of Durango is one of Ken’s forever friend, they were “the best of friends” since the 6th grade and my mother and I would like to honor him for that. Ken is survived by his beloved mother, Pauline Armenta, sister Vera Armenta O’John (Roy), cousins, aunts, uncles, that he was beginning to know more about while doing that “family tree.” He is preceded in death by his father, Jim Armenta, nephew Shonie S. Baker and aunt Ruth Yazzie. A memorial service will be held in Durango, Colorado at the Hood Mortuary Chapel, 1261 East 3rd Avenue on Friday, September 1, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow after services at Crestview Cemetery near Elmore’s Corner. Reception will be at the Sky Ute Casino Event Center in Ignacio, Colorado from 1:00pm – 3:00pm.
