Marion Stevens Durango, Colorado Obituary

Marion Stevens

Surrounded by family, Marion Albert Stevens returned to his Heavenly Father on April 27, 2013, at the age of 79. Marion was born February 14, 1934, to Marion J. and Lettie D. Stevens in Durango, the first of seven children. He married Lorraine Drake January 18, 1955, and together they had four children, Marvin Lynn, Kent Lowell, Lourae Lea, and Glenn Albert. He learned to work at an early age and started working to support his family at the age of 15. He started in uranium and coal mines, but soon learned the art of masonry and loved to build with brick and stone. Much of his work will stand in the area for the benefit of others for generations. He also worked on the family farm which he later purchased and made his home. After the dust from the mines and brick saws took his health, he continued ranching on the family farm. Marion was a patriarch to his family, he loved them very much and they were always the center of his world. From his siblings to his great-grandchildren, their needs were always foremost in his mind and heart and his world revolved around them. He loved children and was Grandpa to all. He is preceded in death his wife Lorraine; parents, Marion and Lettie Stevens; brothers, Kimm, Sherman, Sherron, and most recently Kenny. He is survived by his sister, Winona Justice of Glendale, Ariz.; brother, Walter (Marilyn) Stevens of Craig, Colo.; children Marvin Stevens of Pleasant View, Colo., Kent (Shauna) Stevens of Queen Valley, Ariz., Lourae (Kenneth) Minor of Moab, Utah, and Glenn (Cheryl) Stevens of Red Mesa, Colo. He had 18 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and scores of children call him grandpa. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Hood Mortuary, 1261 E. 3rd Ave. Durango, CO (www.hoodmortuary.com). The Stevens Family would like to express our appreciation for the friendship over the years and all the concern and love shown to us during this time.
