Durango resident Mary L. Moreno died Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango, Colo. She was 73. Mrs. Moreno was born to Victor and Laura Escojeda on October 27, 1938, in Gallup, N.M. In 1954 she married Martin Moreno, and ten years later they moved to the Durango area. She filled a variety of roles in life, but her most important was being a stay-at-home mom. She enjoyed collecting numerous different things, making jewelry, and going to the casino. Mrs. Moreno is survived by her husband of 58 years, Martin Moreno, of Durango, daughters Lala Moreno of Durango, Beatrice Moreno of Bayfield, Colo., and Vicky Moreno of Durango; sons Martin Moreno, Jr., of Farmington, N.M., Moses Moreno of Bayfield and Marcos Moreno of Durango; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and numerous other extended family members. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Durango. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Joseph L. Gallegos officiating. Burial will occur at Pine River Cemetery in Bayfield following the service. A reception will follow the burial service at Sacred Heart Fellowship Hall.
