Patterson Curtis

Patterson (Pat) Curtis passed away surrounded by family at his home on March 6, 2016. He was born February 20, 1933 in Joliet, Illinois to Louise and Willard Curtis. Pat graduated in 1951 from Joliet Township High School. He served in the US Air Force from 1954-1956, at which time he was honorably discharged. In 1958 Pat and Judith Ross were married. Two children were born to this union; Kent and Kyle. Pat graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1960, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and lettered in swimming. Pat started a career in banking for himself in Dixon, Illinois. He and his family moved to Durango, CO in 1978, where he served as Executive Vice President at Bank of Durango and later, President of the newly chartered Durango National Bank. In 1986 Pat and Judith moved to Pagosa Springs, CO, where he worked as Executive Vice President and President of Citizens Bank. In 1991 Pat retired from banking, then owning and operating a collection agency in Pagosa Springs until 1998. Pat was involved in a variety of organizations, including Rotary International, YMCA, Pagosa Springs Chamber of Commerce, the Airport Authority Board, PLPOA Board, and Fred Harman Art Museum Board. He was active in the Upper San Juan Search and Rescue, and received an award for over 25 years of service to this organization from the Sheriff’s Office. Pat enjoyed Ham radio and obtained his license in August of 1964. Pat was preceded in death by his wife Judith, who passed in 1995. He married Georganna L. Macklin in May, 1999. Pat is survived by wife Georganna; brothers Willard and Randolph; sons Kent Curtis of Durango, CO and Kyle Curtis of Chandler, AZ; grandsons Ben and Ryan; granddaughters Sara and Katelyn and one great-grandchild. A private memorial service will be held by family at a later date. Pat and Georganna were volunteers at the Pagosa Thrift Shop for the benefit of the Humane Society. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Pat’s name to: Humane Society of Pagosa Springs, PO BOX 2230, Pagosa Springs, CO, 81147.
