Randy McKee

Randy Lee McKee, 60, died Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Durango, Colorado from complications of H1N1. A gathering of family and friends will be on Saturday, February 22nd followed by a Reception at 2:00. Randy was born January 10, 1954 in Colorado Springs, Colo. the son of Leroy and Esther McKee. When he was in the 5th grade, his family moved to Grand Junction. He attended schools there and graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1972. He met his future wife, Bonnie Jo Hermance at a softball game and in 1973, they were married in Grand Junction. Randy and Jo moved to their ranch in Bondad in 1980 where they raised registered black angus and commercial cattle. Randy enjoyed developing his heard with a focus on high altitude, calving ease bulls. Randy started working in a cabinet shop in Grand Junction when he was 15. He continued to learn the trade of building cabinets and in 1985 opened his own cabinet shop in Bondad. Randy was the President of the La Plata County Fair Board for the last 25 years. Randy is a supporter of kids, 4-H and agriculture. He worked countless hours every year for the fair to run smoothly and be successful for participants and visitors. Randy enjoyed the spring calving season and hunting season in the fall. He enjoyed gun collecting, Fantasy Football and spending time with family, especially his five grand kids. Randy also enjoyed fishing in Alaska. He was lucky enough to have the opportunity to fish in Alaska the last 4 years and easily caught his limit in salmon and halibut, even though he did not eat any of his catch! He is survived by Bonnie Jo McKee (wife) of Durango, Leroy McKee (father) of Grand Junction, Colo., Chad (Heather) McKee (son and daughter in law) of Bayfield, Dana (Scott) Raybourn (daughter and son in law) of Durango, Joie Raybourn, Lana McKee, Tori Raybourn, Trey McKee and Trinity McKee (grandchildren), Rick (Debbie) McKee (brother and sister in law) of Grand Junction, Colo., Tammy (Larry) Forney (sister and brother in law) of Grand Junction, Colo., aunts and uncles, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his mother, Esther M. McKee in May 2013. Memorial contributions may be sent to the La Plata County Fair Board, c/o Extension Office, 2500 Main Avenue., Durango, CO 81303. t the Church of Christ in Bayfield. Memorial Service is at 1:00
