Robert Duran

Robert (Bobby) R. Duran died Thursday, June 27, 2013, at home in Durango. He was 62 years old. The youngest of three brothers, he was born August 25, 1950, to Joe and Emma Duran in Durango. He graduated from Durango High School in 1968, and worked at the C.O.D. Laundry. In November 1971, he enlisted in the Army. He served in Germany and in the U.S. in Colorado, Louisiana, and South Carolina. He particularly enjoyed his memories of his service in Germany. His family remembers, "Bobby loved his country and was proud to serve in the armed forces here in the U.S. and abroad." After many life changes he found his true love again, and he married his high school sweetheart, Becky Sandoval June 12, 2004, in Durango. Bobby was an avid Broncos fan and loved entertaining his family and friends with his guitar. He played in a local band known as Eddie and the Aces. The family said, "He always had a smile on his face and had good words to say about everyone. He was a real practical jokester; we'll miss his funny antics." Mr. Duran is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Steve and John Duran. He is survived by his wife, Becky, of Durango; daughter, Bobbie Jo Duran, and son, Noah Ringulet, of Oregon; stepchildren Renne (Erik) Saiz of Bloomfield, N.M., Domnick (Jolynn) Archuleta of Farmington, N.M., and Gabe (Brandi) Archuleta of Ignacio; mother-in-law Esther Sandoval of Bloomfield; five granddaughters and seven grandsons. A visitation will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Monday, July 1, 2013, at Hood Mortuary Chapel, followed by a rosary at 6 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion Post #28, 878 E. 2nd Ave., Durango, CO 81301.
