Robert Hawley

Robert Lee Hawley passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017, in Pagosa Springs, CO. He was 96 years old. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 3 pm and a memorial service will be announced at a later date. Robert was born January 17, 1921, to Oscar Lee Hawley and Nannie Bell (Clark) Hawley in Rockwood, Texas. He grew up in Oklahoma on the Johnson Ranch close to Minco OK. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in the Asian Pacific Theatre and received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his service. He was married in Tulsa, OK on November 5, 1949 to Doris Maxine (Williams) Hawley. Upon his work retirement, Robert and Doris began pastoring churches and Native America Missions. His first church was with the Kiowa in Anadarko, OK. Many years were spent in Castle Butte, AZ (outside of Winslow), ministering to the Navajo and Hopi tribal members. Robert moved to Pagosa Springs in about 2005. His wife, Doris, passed away in 2007. Robert loved his church home and the potluck celebrations and get-togethers. He also enjoyed elk hunting, fishing, four-wheeling and hiking. He is survived by his children: Brenda (Bill) Eaves, F. Lee (Judy) Wallis; grandchildren: Michelle (Jim) Jordan, Christina (Jimmy) Butler, Michael (Melissa) McDonald, Rodney (Katherine) Eaves, Sherry (Mathias) Montes, Rondall (Penny) Wallis, Robert (Tammy) Wallis, Barbara (Glenn) Silva, Jennifer Dawn Wallis, Adrian Earl (Laura) Wallis, Benny James Lea, Patina Moreland and John Wayn Hardy; Numerous Great and great-great-grandchildren He is preceded in death by a daughter: Letha Hardy; his Wife: Doris Maxine Hawley. Floral contributions will be accepted or Memorial contributions may be sent to Pagosa Bible Church.
