Robert Howell Morlan Obituary

Robert H. Morlan of Durango and Bayfield, CO passed away peacefully, on October 21, 2015, with his family surrounding him. Skype allowed his oldest daughter and her family in Idaho to also be there in love and support. He was born to Vena (Bryant) and Joseph Morlan on Nov. 1, 1933 at Mercy Hospital in Durango, CO. He graduated from Durango High School in 1953. He went to Fort Lewis and C.U. and then enlisted in the Army in 1955. He was trained at Army Security Agency School in Fort Devon, Massachusetts as a Morse Code Interceptor and served in Hokkaido, Japan until 1958 when he was honorably discharged from the Army. Bob returned to Durango and worked at K.I.U.P. radio station and then went into business with his father who had purchased Durango Glass Co. In 1964 he married Carol Dayton at St. Columba Catholic Church. In 1973 Robert and Carol purchased Durango Glass Inc. from his parents and had his business until 1988. They then purchased Durango Army Navy in 1990 until 1999. Bob loved the surplus business. He learned quickly, and loved every minute and every customer who walked through the door. Bob loved his family. He was so proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bob is survived by his wife, Carol; his children Margaret (Charlie) Harrington, Sheldon (Trish) Morlan, Valerie (Robert) Lovett; grandchildren Courtney (Andrew) Fisher, Jake Harrington, Robert Lovett, Sloan Lovett, and Tiffany Morlan; great grandchildren Alden, Kelton and Bristol Fisher. He was preceded in death by his parents and twin great-granddaughters. Bob was an avid hunter, and had many memorable hunts up in Hermosa Park and the Graysill area. He was also a die-hard Broncos fan. He loved sports, and there was always a golf, basketball or football game on television. He was a life member of the B.P.O.E in Durango, CO. Bob never met a stranger. His smile was infectious, his zest for life contagious, and he always loved a good joke. Bob will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. A service and reception will be held in the spring next year, when all family can attend. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Hospice of Mercy.
