Robert Olson

Robert J. Olson passed away on July 12, 2017. He was the son of Melvin and Inez Olson born in Durango on February 8, 1926. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 63 years, Clara, his daughter Martha Clara and his sister Clover (Francis) Greene. He is survived by his sons Richard (Gail) Olson and Roger (Jessie) Olson, brother Richard (May) Olson, and sisters Lillian (Les) Roberts, Phyllis Lewis, Mary Heaton and Patricia (Larry) Wright. Grandchildren include Lauren Olson, Drew (Kathy) Olson, Caroline Olson and William Garcia and two great grandchildren, Kyle and Leah Olson. He served in the US Army and was honorably discharged. During his military service, he met the love of his life, Clara, in Louisville KY. After retiring from Ashland Oil in Louisville, he and Clara relocated to Ignacio. He enjoyed golfing and travel in retirement. He was an avid bowler, golfer, and University of Kentucky basketball fan. The family is very grateful for the care of Sunshine Gardens Country Home, Shining Star Caregivers and Hospice of Mercy. Memorial gifts may be made to First Baptist Church of Ignacio, 320 Lakin St., Ignacio CO 81137 or the charity of one's choice. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 15th with visitation one hour prior to the service at Hood Mortuary.
