Ronald Millar Obituary

Ronald H. Millar died Friday, March 23, 2012, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango, Colo. He was 69. Ron was born July 27, 1942, in Denver, Colo., the son of Howard Louis and Virginia Ellen Millar. He graduated from Limon High School in 1960. He attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural economics in 1965. He earned a Master of Science degree in that field in 1975. Rather than be drafted, he chose to enlist in the Navy April 20, 1966. He served aboard the USS Catskill as a radio mechanic during the Vietnam years. He was honorably discharged in 1970 at the Naval Station in Long Beach, Calif. Ron and Paula Renee Scoggins were married February 14, 2003, in Brighton, Colo. Ron had been married four times before he married Paula. He had no children. Ron was active in the field of agriculture economics. He was a farm and ranch manager, did tax planning and preparation, ran a hay sales business, and worked for a landscape business. His final job was as the Agricultural Appraiser for the Otero County Assessor, and then as the Agricultural Appraiser for the Adams County Assessor, from which he retired in 2011. Ron moved to Vallecito with his wife, Paula, in May 2011 to help care for his father-in-law, Lewie T. Scoggins. All through his youth, Ron was a member of the Boy Scouts, attaining the rank of Eagle when he was 17. He actively supported Unity, and read their daily affirmations every day. He was also a student of "The Infinite Way, The Inner Kingdom Consciousness." Ron loved fishing Vallecito Reservoir with his good friends Al and Myra Anderson. In fact, he caught the biggest fish of their season on the last day the Vallecito boat dock was open in 2011. He did beautiful leather tooling, and was planning to sell his work as a hobby/business. He was also an avid gardener, golfer, and bird hunter, hunting with his good friend Fred Schroetlin in Yuma, Colo. He loved his bird dogs Fudge, Friendly, Lucky, and finally, Brownie. Ron is preceded in death by his wife, Delana Rogena Millar, his father, Howard Louis Millar, his mother, Virginia Ellen Millar, and his uncles “Buddy” Millar and Gerald Nicholl. He is survived by his wife, Paula Millar, of Bayfield (Vallecito), Colo.; sister, Kay Lee Thiessen, of Denver; nephew, Doug Trout, and his wife, Kathy, and their son, Derek, of Ft. Collins, Colo.; niece, Tammy Trout, and her husband, Tim, their three daughters Nichelle, Nattia, and Brooke of Johnstown, Colo.; cousin, Judy Martinez, of Broomfield, Colo.; and her daughter, Dr. Denise Slusher, and her husband, Darrin, also of Broomfield. No services are planned at this time. The family would like to thank Mercy Hospital of Durango and Porter Memorial Adventist Hospital of Denver for providing such good care to Ron during his illness.
