Ruth Mortimer

Ruth Maryland Mortimer of Durango, passed away April 15th, 2015 at Cottonwood Inn Extended Care Center in Durango. She was 90 years old. Ruth was born July 13th, 1924 in Hale Center, TX to W. E. and Ruth Reagan. She grew up in Quitaque and Muleshoe, TX, on a cotton farm. She was married to William Harry Mortimer in 1948. Harry and Ruth moved to Durango from the Texas panhandle in 1957. Ruth excelled at the skills it took to make her house a home. She supported Harry in his water drilling businesses. She babysat and raised numerous local children - providing many families day-care services. Ruth was a surrogate mother and grandmother to many, more than just blood relatives. Ruth enjoyed feeding and watching birds and all wildlife. She was an active member of the Church of Christ in Bayfield. She is survived by her sons: Neal Mortimer of Durango, and Geary (Melissa) Mortimer of Canyon, Texas; grandsons Lynn (Sara) Mortimer of San Antonio, TX, and Bryant (Holly) Mortimer of Bayfield, sister: Glenna (James) Reynolds, Brother: Robert (Peggy) Reagan, granddaughter-in-law, Alexis Mortimer of Durango, 4 great-grandchildren and one on the way. She is preceded in death by her Husband: Harry, and her grandson Brett Mortimer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cottonwood Inn Extended Care Facility. A service will be held at 10:00am, April 20th, at the Church of Christ, Bayfield, 2011 Bayfield Parkway, Bayfield, CO, with Ray Wallace officiating. Burial will take place at Greenmount Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Cottonwood Inn and Hospice of Mercy for their loving care.
