Steven Brian Scholz passed away Friday, November 27, 2015 at his home in Durango. He was 57 years old.

Steve was born December 7, 1957 to Paul Alfred Scholz and Rita Marie Malloy of California. He spent most of his upbringing in California.

Steve was a passionate chef who loved to serve the community and the children of Durango through his work as “the lunch lady” at Durango High School and more recently, Riverview Elementary School.

Steve loved to hike, camp, and spend time with his children and grandchildren. He loved the Rocky Mountains and moved to Durango in 2007 to be closer to his children. He has lived in California, Austin, TX, and Denver, CO.

Steve is survived by his children: Brian Scholz and Alisha Coley, both of Bayfield; his brothers: Paul and George; his sisters: Diane, Marlene and Pamela; three grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held at Hood Mortuary Chapel on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 10:00 am. A memorial reception will follow at the Riverview Elementary cafeteria at 11:30 am
