Virginia Bynum

Virginia Hawkins Bynum died Monday, July 23, 2012, in Ignacio, Colo. She was 86. Virginia was born August 15, 1925, in Gallup, N.M., the daughter of Fawney and Grace Nelson. She married Hugh Elmer Bynum on August 26, 1945. Virginia and Hugh settled down in Thousand Oaks, Calif., to raise their four boys. She retired from Bank of America in 1980 and moved to Ignacio, Colo., with her husband Hugh. Virginia was a member of Pine Valley Four Square Church, where she served as treasurer and Sunday school teacher. Virginia enjoyed being part of the prayer warrior team, spending time with family, gardening and playing the piano. Virginia was a positive model for so many and she will truly be missed. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh E. Bynum, and son David G. Bynum. She is survived by her three sons: Stephen Bynum of Ignacio, Robert Bynum of Bayfield, Colo., and James Bynum of Oak Hills, Calif.; her brother, Bud Nelson, of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughters-in-law Maureen Bynum of Kiefer, Okla., Brenda Bynum of Bayfield, Colo., and Camille Bynum of Oak Hills, Calif.; 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Pine Valley Four Square Church in Bayfield.
