Marvin Adams

The Rev. Marvin H. Adams, 64, of Greeley, CO died Monday November 5, 1979 at Weld County General Hospital. He was born September 15, 1915 at Shelbyville, TN to Ernest E. and Netta A. (Harrison) Adams. On July 11, 1937 he married Martha Rambo at Shelbyville. He grew up in Shelbyville and later received his bachelor of arts degree from Emory University at Atlanta, Ga and then his bachelor of divinity degree from Candler School of Theology, also in Atlanta in December, 1939. The Rev. Adams and his wife went to Saint Ignatius, MT where he was district superintendent appointee in January 1940. While in that post, he also served in Arlee and Dixon, MT in that same capacity. He was received into the Montana conference in June 1940 and then in 1942 he was received into full connection with the Montana Methodist Conference. At the same session he was transferred to Valier, MT. During WWII he was a chaplain with the U.S. Army. He joined the service on September 20, 1943 at Lake County MT. and was discharged at Camp Campbell, KY on December 6, 1945. After his discharge he was appointed pastor of the Methodist church at Glendive, MT, and then in 1948 he was made pastor of the First Methodist church at Bozeman, MT and also served as the Wesley Foundation director for Methodist students attending Montana State University. He was appointed pastor of the Methodist Church at Great Falls, Mt in 1951 and in June 1955 he was made pastor of the Boulder Methodist Church at the Rocky Mountain conference. He moved to Greeley and was appointed pastor of the Greeley First United Methodist Church in 1968 and had just been reappointed for his 12th year as senior pastor at the time of his death. He served as chairman of the board of trustees of the Rocky Mountain conference of the United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Valier Lodge No. 593 AF & AM at Valier, Scottish Rite of Free Masonry at Livingston MT, and the El Jebel Shrine and Sigma Chi and Phi Beta Kappa fraternities. Survivors are his wife, Martha, a daughter, Mrs. Tom (Becky) Geiler of Prescott, AZ; three sons, Robert H. of Arcadia, CA, William W. of Greeley and Ben E. of Grand Junction; and six grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 8, 1979 at the First United Methodist Church. Cremation. Friends may call at the mortuary until 9:00 p.m. Thursday, November 8, 1979. Contributions may be made to the "First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund' in care of Adamson Mortuary, 827 5th Street, Greeley, CO which is in charge of arrangements.
