Virgil Stewart
Virgil R. Stewart, 88, of Ault, CO passed away Monday, November 1, 2010 at Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado. He was born April 9, 1922 in Evans, CO to Widdie W. and Eva Lena (Brown) Stewart. He grew up in Ault and graduated from Ault High School. One of his fondest memories was playing in the first Colorado High School All Star Football Game. Virgil attended Colorado A & M, now Colorado State University on a football scholarship before enlisting in the Navy. He served in the South Pacific with the Underwater Demolition Teams 2 & 3 as a Frogman where he was awarded the Bronze Star. On September 1, 1947 he married Rose White in Rapid City, SD. In 1955 they moved to the farm in Ault where they had resided for the last 55 years. Virgil was a life Member of the Ault VFW Post 4334. As Commander he was instrumental in the purchase of an old school that was turned into the current VFW Hall. He was on the Board of Directors for the Water Supply and Storage Company from 1986 – 1998 and the Collins and Lone Tree Ditch Company’s for numerous years. Virgil and Rose enjoyed traveling across the United States with Navy buddy Shep and Charleen Shepard of Midland, TX going to Underwater Demolition Team Reunions. He also spent many years traveling to kids and grandkids sporting events. In September 2008 Virgil traveled with the Honor Flight to Washington, DC to see the WWII Memorial. Virgil is survived by his wife, Rose; daughters, Suzann (Cliff) Binks of Williston, ND, Mariann (Tom) Bledsoe of La Salle, CO, Rita Ann (Luke) Deichert of Williston, ND; sons, V. Ray Stewart of Fort Collins, CO, Mark (Robin) Stewart of Ault, Wayne (Julie) Stewart of Eaton, CO; grandchildren, Scott(Cristy) Stewart, Matthew Binks, Craig Stewart, Laura Binks, Cole (Katie) Deichert, Grant Stewart, Andrew Deichert, Cameron Stewart; great granddaughter, Eislynn Deichert; and sister, Doris (Harold)Satur. He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Derek Duane Stewart; brothers, Lawrence (Ruby) Stewart, Vernon (Dorothy) Stewart, Harold (Maggie) Stewart; and sister, Viola (Cecil) Kelly. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Adamson Chapel. Graveside Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 5, 2010 at Ault Cemetery.
