Larry G. Batman

Larry Gene Batman, 90, of Greeley, shuffled off this mortal coil on April 21, 2021 in Greeley. He was born July 2, 1930 in Greeley, Colorado to Frank Arthur and Susie Marie (Tormey) Batman. Larry was the youngest of 11 children and the only one to be born in a hospital. He grew up on the family farm in Pierce, Colorado and was active in music, sports, and in 4-H. He graduated from Pierce High School in 1947 and attended the University of Wyoming. Larry was drafted into the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict, served in the 47th Armored Medical Battalion at Ft. Hood, and was later stationed at Schofield Barracks and at Ft. Sill. On November 25, 1952, he married his high school sweetheart Shirley Maxine DePorter at the First United Presbyterian Church in Greeley. After being honorably discharged from the U. S. Army in 1954, he attended Colorado State College of Education (now UNC) in Greeley and earned both his BA and MA degrees in History and Mathematics. Larry taught mathematics at Sandia High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico; he was a founding Faculty member of Aims Junior College, now Aims Community College, where he taught math and computer science classes for 28 years. He enjoyed farming, gardening, history, and music. He supported local 4-H clubs and often worked at 4-H events. He was a member of the American Legion. Larry was a devoted and loving husband and father, and especially enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter. Survivors include his wife, Shirley and their children: Christine Batman (Wes Schneider) and Elena Batman (Lee Levin) and granddaughter Alyssa Levin. He was preceded in death by his parents Art and Susie Batman and siblings Marie Jones, Helen Williams, Alta Lacy, Evelyn Geib, Matilda Draper, Nonie Horning, Glynnellen Grogan, Doris Kerbs, Art Batman, and BC Batman. A kind and loving man, he will be missed by all those that knew him. Larry’s Life Celebration will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Adamson Life Celebration Home, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, CO. Friends may leave condolences at AdamsonCares.com.
