Claude Melvin “Bud” Leaf Jr, son of Reena Davis Leaf and Claude Melvin Leaf passed away quietly July 20, 2019, in Fort Collins, Colorado. He was born October 5, 1939, on the family farm east of Pierce. He was preceded in death by his father, Claude Leaf, sister Patsy Stewart, brother, Timothy Leaf and nephew Adam Leaf. He attended public schools in Pierce, Colorado, and graduated from Pierce High School in 1957, where he was an active member of FFA. Bud enlisted in the Air National Guard in 1962. After basic training in San Antonio, TX, and fighter jet mechanic training at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois, he was stationed in Colorado for the following six years. As a lifetime cattle rancher/farmer, Bud focused on raising registered polled Herefords on the home place in Pierce and on George Creek. He also raised and trained horses throughout his life. Bud was a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys’ Association and competed in regional rodeos which included Cheyenne Frontier Days. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He ran guided hunting trips on horseback through the Tetons. He is survived by his mother Reena Leaf, brother, Dean Leaf, daughter Fawn Leaf, son Justin Leaf, Dee Dauphin and step children Debbie Kruse and Kim Garrison. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Cassidy Bacon Leaf, Jasmine Leaf Gilkes, Devan Leaf, Jaiton Leaf and Tyler Leaf as well as step grandchildren, Brittany Kruse, Mindy Kruse, Chad Garrison and Kayla Herald. Nieces and nephews include: Ashley Leaf, Shelly Wight, Krystal Holladay and Everett Stewart.
