Mickey began working at Tri State Mineral Company (Pfizer) after graduating high school and remained there until 1979. Due to medical complications from the talc plant, Mickey retired. He worked at the Ruby Valley Hardware Store in the early 1980’s until it closed in the mid 1990’s. He moved to Piedmont, South Dakota in 1998 and worked seasonally for the Rapid City Parks Department until 2003. In 2009, Mickey moved to Milliken, Colorado and lived with his son Dean and family until his death.
