Barbara Jean Almond

Barbara Jean Almond April 6, 1933 – May 3, 2020 Barbara went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 3, 2020. Barbara died at Swedish Hospital in Englewood, Colorado. Barbara did not have COVID-19. Barbara was born in Culbertson, Nebraska to parents Ernest and Fairy Rhoades. Barbara was predeceased by her parents, five brothers, three sisters; and husband Frank. Barbara is survived by her four children (Steve Morthole, Jeff Morthole, Shawna Pickett, and Michele Dunn); eleven grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; extended family members and friends. Barbara was a life-long learner completing high school in Culbertson, Nebraska and received a scholarship to University of Nebraska. Barbara relocated to Colorado with her husband and young children, continuing her education completing college studies in accounting, auto mechanics for women, self-defense and dance. Barbara was a full-time wife and mother for many years. Outside the home she worked for Jefferson County Schools Food Services, Coors Porcelain Company, Rodgers Byerly & Associates, and The Burlington Northern Railroad. After Barbara retired, she volunteered at The Johnson Adult Day Care Program, and Johnson Center Hospice of Denver. Barbara enjoyed music as a member of the Arvada Civic Chorus, Denver Lutheran Chorale, and her church choir. Barbara also played the organ. Barbara was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and School in Franktown, Colorado, and created a baking ministry at the pre-school. Barbara became known as “The Cookie Lady” for her delicious cookies, pies, breads, and taffy. Barbara enjoyed teaching children and adults how to bake.
