Jack Cecil Fackler
Jack C. Fackler Jack C. Fackler passed away on July 24, 2019 at Littleton Adventist Hospital, four days shy of his 75th birthday. Jack was born at Southwest General Hospital, Los Angeles, CA on July 28, 1944 at 11:45 PM. His mother, Wilford “Marie” Fackler, was just 20 years old and a native of Texas. His father, Harold George Fackler, was 25 years old, and a sailor in the Navy. Harold grew up on a farm, as a native Nebraskan. Jack’s early years were spent in Nebraska with his mom, dad and older brother Travis. The family returned to Southern California when Jack was 7 or 8 years old (making Travis 9 or 10). His school years were full of typical boyhood antics, often right alongside his brother Travis. Jack graduated from California High School in 1962. When he was old enough, he went to work as a busboy and worked his way up to cook. He put himself through two years of community college at Cerritos Jr. College, and graduated with an AA degree. Shortly after, he was drafted into the army, following his brother Travis’ draft the year before. Jack held the very important role of company clerk (“Radar”) and was the right hand to the company commander. He graduated from Drill Corporal school and rose to the rank of Specialist 5 because of his work ethic and attention to detail. He was also recognized as a marksman and was very proud of his service and loved our country. He met his future bride, Laurel L. Franck, visiting a friend at the office where Laurel worked in September 1966. He and Laurel had an autumn romance before he left for Fort Ord in January 1967. One short week on leave and they were engaged, followed by their marriage three months later on July 8, 1967. Returning from the service in January 1969, he went to California State University, Los Angeles, and earned a bachelor’s degree in 1970. He built his career in the paperboard and plastic packaging industry in California and Colorado. The four children came quickly, Jack C. Jr on 1/15/69; Michael George on 1/11/71, Christopher Wayne on 3/5/74 and Daniel Gilbert on 7/10/75. The family spent 17 years in the Los Angeles area, and nine in San Jose until finding their way to beautiful Colorado. Jack and Laurel followed Mike and Kirstin Marr, recently married, bringing Danny along. Soon after, Jack Jr. and Chris joined the family as well. Jack Jr. married Patty Banta and Chris married Jennifer Corby. Danny returned to San Jose and married Elena Repetto. Adding these four “daughters” to our family gave us grandchildren Haley, Gregory, Carson, Keira, Jackson, Torre, Sarah and Angelo, and great grandchild, Logan. His favorite thing to do was shoot pool, and he was a very skilled pool player! He made many great friends playing in competitive leagues and for pleasure. His boys learned to love the game and played with their dad often using their own pool sticks, given to them by Jack. He was teaching his grandkids to shoot pool too. He spent many hours watching pool tournaments past and present on YouTube. Tennis was his favorite sport to watch on TV, unless the Broncos were playing. He loved Rock ‘n Roll music from the 50’s and 60’s and knew all the great performers. He also loved Western movies, politics and cared deeply about the state of our union. He never missed a Little League game when his boys were playing. Jack loved vintage cars. He owned several and worked them in the driveway, while he taught his boys everything he knew. They all still have a strong love for classic cars. There was no silly joke he didn’t know and tell often, and he loved to talk endlessly about things he found fascinating, like how boxes are made and printed and vintage cars! He weathered an unexpected job loss and the very serious illness of his son Danny, who died on September 11, 2016. His own cancer diagnosis reared its ugly head in 2003 and he was given just a few years to live. His determination and stubborn refusal to die provided many unexpected years of fun and games with family and friends. His family is eternally grateful for his incredible will to fight and beat the odds, so we were able to spend more time with him than the medical professionals predicted. In his humility, he didn’t realize that he was a remarkable man. He was loved intensely by his family, and he guided them by his example of loyalty, honesty and caring. We’ll honor his life at Fort Logan National Cemetery on August 23, 2019 at 2:15 PM. Enter at the gate marked funeral entrance just south of 285 on Sheridan Blvd. and follow the signs to staging area “C”. Ceremonies start promptly on time, so plan to arrive at the staging area at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you donate to the Second Wind Foundation for suicide prevention.
