Michael Basten Nichols, AKA Slackjaw, passed away from a short but hard-fought 1 year battle with cancer. He took his final breath peacefully in his Lakewood, CO, home on Sunday Oct. 20, 2019 at 11:26am surrounded by his parents and his wife. He was 39 years old. Mike was born Sept.25,1980 in Greeley, CO, to Joyce and Cecil (Nick) Nichols. Mike spent his childhood in Kelim, CO, where his love for music, cars and motorcycles flourished. He was 11 when his family moved to Lakewood. He graduated from Warren Tech in auto collision repair, all while having his own Classic Auto Repair shop in Loveland, and working at Auraria Campus, Denver, for the State of Colorado alongside his father. Mike became grounds manager and worked for the state for 22 years. Being the hard worker he was, he still knew how to have fun, whether it be the comedy shows he did with his brothers, singing and playing guitar in his band with his best friend, riding his motorcycle to Sturgis for the past 26 years, or driving his cars and teaching his boys how to work on them. He absolutely loved spending time with his family and friends. He always loved being the center of attention-a real "show man"- and enjoyed hosting parties with his partner of eight years, Breezie Pyfer. Mike is survived by his wife, Breezie; stepsons Joshua and Levi; his parents, Nick and Joy; grandfather Cecil Nichols; sister Jodi; brothers Kenny and Mark; nieces, Breanna, Braylee, Sara and Maisy; his nephews, Michael and Henry, and many other beautiful loved ones. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019 at the American Legion Post 17 in Edgewater, CO.
