Rudolph Bettini

Rudolph Robert Bettini 84, of Colorado went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at home surrounded by family. Rudy was born on August 4, 1934, in Sterling Colorado, to parents Rotille and Eliza Bettini, who affectionately called him “Bobby”. Rudy was the 6th of 9 siblings. Both of his parents immigrated to the US from Italy and soon realized their dreams of owning and raising their family on a farm. Rudy shared many fond memories and stories of his childhood pertaining to life with his siblings and parents. Always a farm boy at heart, his past times included learning everything he possibly could while enjoying his western lifestyle. He attained many skills, and being mechanically inclined, developed a passion for repairing cars, trucks and tractors, which he later passed on to his sons. He enlisted in the Army in 1955 and was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. until 1957 when he fulfilled his obligation and was honorably discharged. He returned home to Colorado and began a career in the oil field industry. In the summer of 1958, he was offered a position with Winter Weiss in the fabrication of trailers. During lunch breaks, Rudy and his co-workers frequented Willie’s Drive In, their favorite hamburger joint. As fate would have it, the waitress that he had admired and eagerly anticipated seeing each time they visited, was the daughter of Joe Pelino, the owner of the restaurant. After many months of wooing her, his dreams came to fruition, and thus, their courtship began. They were married on July 11th, 1959. Rudy and Joan began building their family and were blessed 10 months later with their first son, followed by their daughter, and two additional sons. Rudy worked in the Construction Industry for 38 years until his retirement at the age of 72. He was a devoted husband and a loving father. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and loved sharing adventures and experiences of life, and growing up on the farm. As a young man he had a gift for restoring, repairing, rebuilding and reconditioning any and all types of vehicles. He developed an appreciation for automotive technology with his passion being fast cars. He built and possessed the fastest car in Sterling for 10 years. Rudy’s unparalleled knowledge, combined with his generosity were recognized and appreciated by many and he was known to all as the neighborhood mechanic, always willing to lend a helping hand. Rudy was a simple, kind-hearted man. A jack-of-all trades, and seemingly master of every single one of them. If it could be fixed, he could fix it. If it could be built, he could build it. If he didn’t know how, he would learn. A true craftsman who believed in the value of hard work and pride in all he touched. He loved Harleys and in any spare time he did have, he took pleasure in riding his motorcycle through the town of Morrison and up to Red Rocks, always in awe of nature’s beauty. Rudy was preceded in death by his wife Joanie on June 23, 2009, his parents, Eliza, Rotille, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Rudy leaves behind his beloved family of four children.
