Ernest Jasmund Longmont, Colorado Obituary

Ernest Jasmund

Ernest Theodore Jasmund, III went to be with the Lord shortly before midnight on February 3, 2019. Earlier that day Ernie and his wife Helen celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary joined by close family. Ernie was born March 11, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY to Ernest and Katherine (Heitmann) Jasmund. He grew up in Queens, NY and graduated from Sewanhaka High School in Flushing in 1954. After school, Ernie enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and proudly served for four years. While in the military he met Helen Lipp in Miles City, MT at a dance. They fell in love and on March 24, 1959 were married in Miles City. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Ernie worked for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). In 1962, he and his family moved to Longmont, CO where he worked for FAA for 31 years until his retirement in 1993. Ernie was a devoted man to his family and his faith. He attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Longmont for many years and later at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Mead. He was active in both parishes, working on the finance committee. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge and the Knights of Columbus in Longmont. Ernie was a sports enthusiast. He loved baseball; playing, watching, and even coaching. He was an avid fan of the Dodgers and later the Rockies, but most important was his attendance at his children’s games; he never missed one. Ernie is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his loving wife Helen Jasmund; two children: Linda (Paul) Jones of Longmont, CO and Ken (Angela) Jasmund of Anthem, AZ; three grandchildren: Bjorn Jensen, Easton (Megan) Jasmund and Logan Jasmund; one great-grandchild, Ava Rose Jasmund; and one sister, Anita (Richard) Yard. Ernie would want to sincerely thank his sisters-in-law Terry Wisecarver and Margaret Heck for their continuous caring support for Helen during this time. The funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 11, 2019 at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 109 3rd Street, Mead CO 80542. A light luncheon will be served after mass in the church hall. In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorial contributions may be made to Guardian Angels Catholic Church Ernie Jasmund Memorial.
