Lorna Modester Bryan Obituary

A special woman, Lorna M. Bryan was born on Sunday, November 28, 1937 in Broadleaf, Manchester, Jamaica. She was born to Eleanora Spencer and Robert Bryan. Her formative years were spent living with her father and attending Broadleaf Primary School. In her rural community, she cultivated a love for sewing, embroidery, baking, cooking and singing. She would carry these talents with her for the rest of her life.

She would move to live with her mother in a nearby district, Good Hope, where she spent her early adult years. Being an ambitious soul, she relocated to Jamaica’s capital, Kingston. To pursue advancement for herself and family, she immigrated to Darien, CT where she worked as a domestic worker, housekeeper and in various other capacities. She would go in to live in Stamford and ultimately settled in Bridgeport, CT. Irrespective of where she lived, the countryside enclave of Broadleaf, Manchester was always home. Lorna often visited her native land a had an unfulfilled dream of living there once again.

Lorna joined the Seventh-day Adventist church and never turned back. She was a member of the Norwalk Seventh-day Adventist Church and a charter Member of the Bridgeport Tabernacle Seventh-day Adventist Church. A firm believer in evangelism and church growth, she was always an ardent supporter of the Seventh-day Adventist church’s missionary ventures in Stamford, CT. As a pillar of faith, she served in the Dorcas society (community services), women’s ministries and sang in the choir. She was blessed to serve as the Food Pantry Coordinator at Bridgeport Tabernacle. For many years she distributed groceries to those in need.

Aunt Lorna as many affectionately know her was a kind soul. She often had snacks and food to give to the hungry. In fact, many have been fed and grown fat as a result of her sumptuous cooking and magnificent baking. To demonstrate her kindness, she often sent barrels of food and clothing to her native community. These items were distributed to the entire community.

Being the active, feisty and independent person that she was, she enjoyed travel. She was often going on a church trip, visiting various states, Canada, and her beloved Jamaica. The decreased mobility of her later years were disappointing to her. She longed to travel and drive herself. However, nothing would keep her from attending church on a weekly basis.

Above all, she was a family woman. She adored and took great pride in her family. In fact, she was the family historian. She also enjoyed meeting new family members and if left unsupervised, she would even bring them home. (She has literally done this)

Lorna M. Bryan, the crossword puzzle queen, was ushered from the toils of life to rest at the age of 82 on Sunday, May 31, 2020. She was a true fighter. She fought valiantly to the finish. In the end, we believe she will receive a crown of righteousness. She was predeceased by her parents several siblings and various other family members. She is survived by her son, Donald (Sandrea); grandchildren, Donato, Trevardo and Kyler; greatgrandchildren, D, D, and D; as well as a host of additional family, friends and church family.
