Anthony Maruca Obituary

Anthony Maruca, 81, of Enfield, died peacefully on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness, Florida. Born in Hudson, NY on September 27, 1931, Anthony was the son of the late Joseph and Helen (Torchia) Maruca. A longtime resident of Enfield, Anthony was a former communicant of St. Bernard Church and a member of the Holy Name Society. Anthony graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a college degree in engineering. He was employed for thirty-six years with Pratt and Whitney as an Experimental Engineer serving on the Apollo projects and functioning in the role as engineering supervisor before retiring in 1992. For many years, he and his wife, Barbara wintered in Florida. In his leisure time, he enjoyed golf and cooking. He was an avid fly fisherman who tied his own flies. He was an artist and enjoyed his family time. Anthony is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-six years, Barbara (Henderson) Maruca; his children, Mark Maruca and his wife, Marianne of Enfield, Annette Maruca and her husband, Peter Hervieux of East Longmeadow, MA, and Gary A. Maruca and his wife, Annette T. of South Windsor; four grandchildren, Nicole, Joe, Abigail and Samara; three sisters-in-law, Marion Maruca of Enfield, Rita Maruca of Springfield, MA, and Anna Maruca of Oceanside, CA; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his three brothers, James, David and Joseph and four sisters, Margaret Lucia, Rose Galletti, Mary Falvo and Annabelle DeMario. Family and friends will gather on Saturday, May 4, 2013 by 8:00 a.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels for a procession to St. Bernard Church where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m., followed by the Rite of Committal at Island Pond Cemetery, Center Street, Ludlow, MA at 10:45 a.m. Anthony’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, May 3, 2013 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield, CT 06082. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the hospice unit at Citrus Memorial Hospital, 502 W Highland Blvd Inverness, FL 34452.
