Barney Buscemi, died peacefully on his 93rd birthday, June 12, 2011 at the Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia-Flagler in Port Orange, FL. Barney was born June 12, 1918 in Longmeadow, MA and was the son of the late Philip and Gracia (Sferrazza) Buscemi. He attended Enfield High School and was a former communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Enfield. At age 17 he began a singing career under the stage name “Phil Barton”. He traveled the country with “Big Band” era bandleaders including Frankie Carle and Charlie Barnet until 1947. He continued his musical career while working as a salesman for local car dealerships, retiring in 1981. Barney lived for many years in Longmeadow and moved to Agawam in 1979. Barney and his wife enjoyed many winters in Port Orange, FL. He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-eight years, Ora L. (Boulier) Buscemi; his sons, Peter M. Buscemi and his wife, Ann of Longmeadow, MA, James M. Buscemi of Agawam, MA and J. Michael Buscemi of Springfield, MA; his daughter-in-law Genevieve Buscemi; two sisters, Lillian N. Gaetani of Enfield, CT and Nina White of New York. He had eight grandchildren, one great grandchild and many nephews. Barney was predeceased by his son, Philip J. Buscemi. In celebration of his life, Barney’s family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, July 17, 2011 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Ora L. Buscemi, 46 Greenacre Lane, Agawam, MA 01001. Interment at St. Patrick King Street Cemetery will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia-Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Terrace, Port Orange, FL 32129.
