Benjamin Swentnickas

Benjamin "Benny" T. Swentnickas, 89, of Enfield, beloved husband of the late Eileen M. (Fusco) Swentnickas, died peacefully at home on Thursday, July 7, 2011. Born on August 24, 1921, in Enfield, Benjamin was the son of the late Michael S. and Anna (Matoninte) Swentnickas. Benjamin was a lifelong resident of Enfield and was a communicant of St. Patrick Church. He was employed as a pipefitter for thirty-eight years with Package Machinery of East Longmeadow. Benny enjoyed fishing and working in his garden; he was also an avid Red Sox fan and was happy to see them win the World Series twice in his lifetime. Benjamin is survived by his loving children, Marie A. Higgins and her husband, Michael of Tucson, AZ, Thomas B. Swentnickas of Tucson, AZ and Theresa M. Swentnickas of Enfield; three grandchildren, Matthew Higgins, Andrew Higgins and David Swentnickas; three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves his special companion, his Golden Retriever, Kira. Benjamin’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, July 15, 2011 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield, CT 06082. A private graveside service will be held. Memorial donations may be made to Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111.
