Charles P. Hykel, of Enfield, passed from his earthly journey to eternal life, at the age of 67 on Friday (February 10, 2012) in Enfield. He was the beloved husband of 40 years to the late Marjorie (Olesen) Hykel and son of the late Joseph Hykel and Mary (Geagan) Hykel Bonavita and stepson of Anthony Bonavita. He was born on Aug. 23, 1944 in Springfield, MA and had resided in Enfield for over 40 years and in Springfield prior to that. Charles retired in 2005 as a Store Manager for Walbaums/Foodmart Supermarkets after over 30 years of service and before that was employed with Finast Supermarkets. He enjoyed sports, was an avid NY Yankees fan and enjoyed Horse racing, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family especially the grandchildren. He is survived by his three sons; Scott P. Hykel of Stafford, Mark S. Hykel and Shaun P. Hykel both of Enfield, his seven beloved grandchildren; Samantha, Ashley, Makenzie, Sydney, Brittany, Vanessa and Tyler. He is also survived by his siblings; Donald Hykel, Ralph, Michael and Anthony Bonavita all of Western MA, a brother-in-law Art Olesen and wife Linda, two sisters-in-law Diane LaFranchise and Joanne Lajoie, his aunt Irene Hines of Agawam, MA, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Besides his parents and wife he was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law Arthur and Marjorie Olesen. Relatives and friends may gather with his family during calling hours on Tuesday (Feb. 14, 2012) from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield, CT. followed by a Service of R emembrance at 7:00 p.m. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family in the Hazardville Cemetery, Enfield. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial donations in his memory be made to the American Cancer Society 30 Speen Street Framingham, MA 01701.
