Charles Vella

Charles "Chic" J. Vella, Retired Detective Officer Vella of Enfield entered into eternal life at the age of 83, on Saturday August 29, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford with loved ones at his side. He was the beloved husband of Nancy L. (Borsuk) Vella. Charles was born on June 6, 1926 in the Thompsonville section of Enfield the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Jackamore) Vella and was a lifelong resident. He attended local schools and graduated from Enfield High School Class of 1944 then went on to serve his country honorably with the U.S. Army during W.W. II. In 1991, Detective, Officer Vella retired after 36 years of service with the Town of Enfield Police Department. He loved to play cards, was an excellent bowler, an avid NY Yankee's fan and enjoyed trips to the casinos. Chic was a member of the Rinaldi-Roy Fede Post #17, AMVETS Post #18, Police Association of Connecticut and a parishioner of Holy Family Church where he served as an Usher. <br>Besides his wife, Nancy of 57 years he is survived by a son, David Vella & his wife, Joanne of Gansevoort, NY, a daughter, Diane Mangini & her husband, Todd of Enfield, a daughter, Lori Bouchard & her husband, Raymond also of Enfield, his four beloved grandchildren; Lisa Mangini, Angelina & Chiara Vella and Nicole Bouchard. He is also survived by his three sisters; Eugenia Vella, Louise Desrocher both of Enfield and Rose Shelanskas & her husband, Raymond of Suffield along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Chic was predeceased by an infant sister, Luigia Vella, a brother, Alphonse Vella, a sister, Josephine Fede and a sister, Ann Aloisa. <br>Funeral Services for Chic will be held on Friday September 4, 2009 with the funeral procession forming at 9:00 a.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield to Holy Family Church 23 Simon Rd. Enfield for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with military honors will follow in the Hazardville Cemetery, Enfield. His family will receive relatives and friend during calling hours on Thursday September 3, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Enfield Food Shelf, Inc. P.O.
