Chester Schienda

Chester A. Schienda, 86 of Enfield, entered into eternal life on Monday (Dec. 30, 2013) at Johnson Memorial Medical Center, Stafford Springs. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to the late Marjorie “Marge” L. (Libey) Schienda (2011). Chester was born on November 14, 1927 in Beacon Falls, CT, he was the son of the late Joseph and Helena (Sprysinski) Schienda. A resident of Enfield for 55 years, Chester was a former parishioner of St. Martha’s Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 50, Enfield, in his younger years he coached Hazardville Little League and referred Youth Basketball. In his leisure time, Chester enjoyed fishing, traveling, but most of all spending time with the grandchildren. Chester is survived by his children; Greg Schienda of Plantsville, Cindy Madsen and her husband, Jim of Somers, and Geoff Schienda and wife, Dawn of Enfield, his cherished grandchildren; Jeremy Madsen & wife Katie, Jackie Schienda, Joel Madsen & wife Alanna, Michele Gonzalez & husband, Steve, Jonathan Madsen, Nicole Rancourt & husband Steve, Katie Schienda and Carly Schienda and three great-grandchildren; Aiden, Cameron and Gabriella. He is also survived by two sisters; Josephine and Barbara, along with many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a son Gerry Schienda, a sister; Helen and three brothers; Raymond, John and Walter. Relatives and friends may gather with his family on Thursday (Jan. 2, 2014) from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, Enfield followed by A Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. in St. Patrick Church 64 Pearl St. Enfield. Interment will then take place with military honors in St. Patrick’s King Street Cemetery in Enfield. Memorial donations in Chester’s memory may be made to the Wernick Day Health Care, 770 Converse Street Longmeadow, MA 01106.
