Donald A. Salerno, 85, beloved husband of 61 years to Marianne (Hutchins) Salerno passed from his earthly journey to eternal rest on Wednesday (February 22, 2012). Donald was born on June 4, 1925 in Hartford, CT the son of the late Anthony and Beatrice (Freeman) Salerno and had resided in East Hartford and then moved to Enfield where he resided for 59 years. Donald served his country honorably with the Merchant Marines and Army during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement in 1987, Donald was employed with SNET for 36 years. He served 5 years as President of the Greater Enfield Arc. Donald enjoyed bowling, golfing, skiing, motorcycling, woodworking and adventure. At the age of 65 he and his close friends Robert and Harold Rivard climbed the Chilkoot Trail in Alaska. A loving father, grandfather and great grandfather Donald is survived by his children; Donna Lee Salerno of Ellington, CT, Donald Salerno and his wife Lisa of Stafford, CT, Ronald Salerno and his wife Cheryl of Enfield and Dean Salerno of Enfield, his grandchildren; Maxwell Salerno Garden, Anthony Colapietro, Nina Salerno, Christa Salerno, Shana Salerno and 2 great grandchildren; Scarlett and Ceceilia. He also leaves his sister; Norma Casazza of Totowa, NJ and brother-in-law and sister-in-law; Norman K. and Janet Hutchins and many nieces and nephews. A Remembrance Service with Military Honors will be held on Saturday (February 25, 2012) at 5:00 p.m. from Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield, CT. Donald’s family will receive friends and relatives prior to the service from 2 to 5 p.m. Burial will be at the convenience of his family. Memorial donations in Donald’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc. CT Chapter 2075 Silas Dean Hwy. Ste. 2100 Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
