Dorothy A. (Dunse) Maggio, 95, of Enfield, CT, beloved wife of the late Russell Maggio, died peacefully in her bed on Saturday the 14th of March 2020. Dorothy was born on the 7th of July 1924, to James and Mary (Koukol) Dunse, in West Springfield, MA. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1941 and completed her course of studies at Felt Comptometer School in 1942. Dorothy married Russell Maggio on the 6th of June 1953. During her lifetime, Dorothy had belonged to numerous organizations. In West Springfield, MA she was the President of the Golden Agers, President of AARP 1429, President of the Daughters of Isabella, member of the American Institute for Banking, member of the VFW and also a Girl Scout Leader to the Cadets. In Enfield, CT, Dorothy was President of St. Adalbert’s Parent Education Group, President of Our Lady of the Angels, President of the Mark Twain Recreation Club, Vice-President of Dial-A-Ride, member of the Auxiliary of the Railroad Workers, member of the Auxiliary of Burma Club B-CT Yankee China Burma, member of the Auxiliary of the American Legion 80, and a volunteer at the Enfield Adult Day Care Center for 15 years. Dorothy was proud of being a “Kelly Girl”. Her favorite job where she stayed for many years was in the trust department at Shawmut Bank of Springfield, MA where she retired from. Dorothy sponsored many fund-raising tours as escort for Peter Pan and King Ward Buses. She ran numerous bus trips to White River Junction in Vermont, bringing back money for various organizations in town. She always worked the voting station for the Town of Enfield, and she taught crocheting for the Enfield Adult Daycare. Dorothy moved into the St. Joseph’s Residence, in Enfield, CT, on the 16th of April 2012. She was a member of the St. Joseph Singers, participating in many of their plays and skits to entertain the residents and their outside visitors. Dorothy won blue ribbons for her afghans at the Big E and Best in Show for her ceramics at the Four Town Fair. Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Bonnielea Stebbins, Judi Jaskolka (Paul), Lori Anne Serrano (Nelson), Josie Murphy, and son Russell Maggio (Darlene). Dorothy is also survived by nine grandchildren. Kelley Potter (Jeff), Kyle Murphy, Danielle Quinlan (Mikel), Nathan Stebbins (Barbi), Luis Serrano, Anthony Serrano (Jazmin), Joel Serrano, Christina Fisher, Russell Maggio II (Erin). Dorothy was also blessed to have and be survived by her 16 great-grandchildren: Jeffrey Potter (Kari), Jennifer Potter, Adam Brassard, Derek and Max Stebbins, Kellen Quinlan, Mya, Olivia, Jenysis, Arya, Ayvin and Jolani Serrano, Maddie and Jessee Fisher, Gemma Maggio, Caitlin and Dylan Thomas Murphy. Her 2 great-great-grandchildren are Nolan and Bryce Potter. Dorothy also leaves behind her loving nieces; Annette (God-daughter), Debbie, Kathy, Jan, Flora, Joyce, Gail, Jaqie. She also leaves her dear cousins Marlene and George, Geraldine and Riedar, Joyce, and especially Jack Matteson. Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved oldest son, Thomas Murphy. Dorothy was a kind, caring, funny woman and was loved by all that met her, she was the life of the party, she adored her family and her presence will be missed. The family would sincerely like to thank Doctors Bandyopadhyay, Dr. Masih, Dr. Mullins, Dr. Karanam, all the nurses, aides, support staff and especially the Sisters of the Little Sisters of the Poor at St. Joseph’s Residence, Enfield, CT, for Dorothy’s care over the last 8 years.
