Edmund Wenc Obituary

Edmund Joseph Wenc of Enfield, CT passed away on November 9, 2008, surrounded by his loving family at St. Francis Hospital. He was born in Thompsonville, CT on June 24, 1923 to Joseph and Viola Wenc, and was one of six children.

Mr. Wenc was a Machinist Mate Second Class in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Aboard the USS Augusta (CA-31), he took part in the D-Day invasion off the coast of Omaha and Utah beaches in Normandy, France. In 1945, he and his crew were responsible for transporting President Truman to the Potsdam Conference. After serving his country, he returned to Enfield, CT and worked as a local builder and later at Hamilton Standard as a machinist. On September 6, 1948, he married Stasia Guzowski, with whom he spent 60 happy years of marriage.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Stasia; children, daughter, Nancy Nowak and husband Robert, daughter Cheryl Roda, and son Gary Wenc and Larry Fontana; and grandchildren, Kristin Girald and husband John-Michael, Kelly Nowak and fiancé Aaron Castor, and Julie Roda. He is also survived by his sisters Madeline Dzienius and Stacia Zaczynski and brothers Edwin Wenc and Joseph Wenc. He was predeceased by his sister Jane Triola.

A viewing will be held at the Browne Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Road in Enfield, CT, from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 11, 2008. The funeral procession will form on Wednesday November 12, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home to St. Adalbert's Church on 90 Alden Avenue in Enfield for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Adalbert's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the American Legion, John Maciolek Post 154, 43 Pearl Street Enfield, CT.
